HMD randomly disconnecting

Hi
Since building a new PC I have been having this issue and cannot find a solution. (oculus was working fine on my last pc)

Randomly I would hear the windows tone reporting a usb device disconnecting, the HMD would go black and the LED light would go from blue to yellow. If I have the config open I would get a HMD tracker connected message. Camera light would go off and then come back on. Tracking is still working when I move the headset.

I have attached a log from a recent crash.
I also see errors in event log reporting this:
The description for Event ID 0 from source OculusVR cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

11/16/15 00:24:19: Error: [FirmwareVersions] WARNING: Unable to load the firmware file. Version checking for device firmware will be disabled and will report that firmware data is "not found".

Element not found

I have tried:

Powered usb 2 hub
removing all usb peripherals
tried a different mini usb cable to headset
tried removing the sync cable
trying on another desktop - worked without disconnecting
tried plugging in the oculus to different usb ports
disabling any power saving features in windows
updated motherboard bios
updated asmedia usb drivers
placing the oculus hdmi into both the hdmi in the graphics cards and in the DVI adapter

my specs:

Intel Core i7 6700K running at 4.4, 2 x 8GB Corsair Black Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz, Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler, MSI Z170A GAMING XPOWER TITANIUM ATX, Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe, 2 x MSI Gaming 980 GTX
running windows 10 with the latest 1511 update
0.8 runtime
gameworks vr 358.78

Whilst looking in event viewer for my graphics cards I see this if it is related to anything important:
Device PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13C0&SUBSYS_31701462&REV_A1\4&27bf3126&0&0009 requires further installation.

ANY help would be appreciated since this is the first time I have really had any Oculus issue and the nature of the random disconnects make it very difficult to play anything atm and the only thing I can think of is it is a motherboards/usb issue maybe related to power saving?
Thanks!

My guess is that it's an issues with the USB controller.

Can you try buying this add-on card if you have space in the rig?

I might also try a new HDMI cable to be safe.

The one I recommended is the only one I know that works for sure. Others may or may not.

  • Okay thanks
Also really appreciate you fast reply.

In your experience if this is the issue is it something that can be changed in the mb bios?

Sometimes it can be fixed by updating USB drivers on the PC (both updating BIOS firmware and the Windows drivers) or it could be solved by reverting to Microsoft drivers (which can be more reliable in certain cases). However, if the hardware is at fault, then only getting the add-on card will fix it.

  • Using the ports on the PCI card worked!
    No more disconnects :)

Thanks very much for your help!
