And says nothing...

Mr. Palmer, I know you're reading these threads. Come on, man. We're your base. Talk to us by OculusConfession in oculus

Not really. Don't shunt blame to other people, this is my call. I am not going to wax poetic about this, since I have done so in the past, but bottom-line: I won't give in-depth updates on any situation without knowing it is solid, true, and finalized. Until I can do so, the best I can do is remind people that I will get them information as quickly as I can.
On the rare occasions when things still change, even when they change for reasons out of my control, I get crucified anyway. Sometimes that means updates have to wait until things get locked down, and sometimes that means waiting a little longer to give everyone good info

EDIT1: Follow up

A lot of the anger, confusion, and misunderstanding could have been fixed if Oculus was concise and quick at communicating on updates, issues, and concerns.
I mean did you see how there was a rumor Italy would be delayed for Vive? Immediate response from HTC letting people know that is not the case. Oculus had to do the same, and they didn't.

concise and quick
That is like saying you would be happy with a car if it was the fastest and also the cheapest. Of course you would, but the two are completely opposed - concise and accurate information is rarely the fastest or first, especially when talking about a situation with so many constantly changing variable.

EDIT2:

Imagine how much more different this sub would be 1000s of people had rifts instead of the handful now. It might have been full of praise. Instead I think Oculus missed their opportunity for good press while they had a launch date advantage. Vive is shipping next week and I think they will steal all of Oculus' thunder. It may go down as a historic failing in terms of launches. This kind of reminds me of the Diablo 3 and SWTOR launches. Just a huge let down.

Not very different, apparently, because there are already many thousands of Rifts out there even at this early point, with more arriving as we speak. Remember that this sub is a tiny minority of the overall VR market - 70k is not even an accurate measure, considering how many subs are from old accounts or lurkers with no headset. The vast majority of people don't care about posting pictures or reviews of their new toy to an internet enthusiast group.

I guess the old saying that "Because some information is better than no information." doesn't apply to this team of people..

If he says all orders are delayed 3 days people will go crazy, but then that doesn't happen people will go crazy.

I am with him doen't say anything until you can stand behind it 100% good or bad.

This is stupid, why does Palmer have to say anything? Oculus should be the ones saying something and they really should be saying something. Say worst case and then beat it. I can't even play it for the next week because I'm out of town. XX:05 order and I'm thinking I should have ordered a Vive...

Palmer is Oculus, even when it was sold to Facebook he decided to keep the mantel The Big Cheese, he has always been the spokesman so it really needs to be him.

Have asked the forum admin in the 'delayed shipping' thread to comment on this as he did comment on something else being not true. Thought you should at least get a chance to read this even if it turns out to be an April Fools as the original post is hidden until user proves himself (which he won't).

I have to agree, though I'm still concerned for people regardless of what HMD they buy. This could have been something on the Vive side and I'd hope we all try and work together to get answers for the good of VR fans all over.

Having said that, today I pre-ordered vive after seeing how the launch with rift developed and it didn't fill me with confidence in the oculus company. :( I mean that was far from my only reason, I was going to sit gen 1 out entirely at first or at least wait to see what touch could do but this put me off oculus at least for this round. Then I saw the unboxing vive videos and got me pumped (I think the packaging is cool personally, yes it's big because there's so much cool shit in there! :) )

I never had a rift order so I'm not a "Canceller", so don't anyone get their hopes up that I've freed up a slot for them! lol

I do feel sorry for him, actually. Whether oculuz have screwed up or not, I am
200% certain that however bad we feel, he feels worse. He may have made a lot of money out of this, but rift is his baby and he's obviously desperate for it to succeed.
I agree with this, I feel bad for Palmer, and the admin on this site who can't say much but appears to be a real VR fan like all of us. :(

Someone should tell the suits or lawyers (if above is true) that real people respond better to real answers, esp in the times of the internet. It's not the 80s anymore haha!

EDIT: IT WAS AN APRIL'S FOOL

Well if that turns out to be true, I might never be able to trust that I got a good Rift, everything I will see something weird I will doubt their Q&A process...

Considering what was just posted on reddit by what most people to believe is Palmers fake account for leaking info, this may have some basis in truth.

Well if this is true, it will be the stuff of legends for years to come lol....and not in a good way...Can't even think how much this is going to cost them, 1st to replace the lens, 2nd the effect on their customer base.

The DK2 removable lens seems like an awesome idea now doesn't it lol...Would have been an easy fix to send to the customers...

There's a silver lining here if it's true.  Waiting is going to suck, but like with Touch, I'm willing to wait for what I feel is the better product.  I think we were all a bit surprised at how badly people were affected by the Fresnel glare artefacts, so it's interesting to hear it might be due to a flaw.

Perfect world it wouldn't have happened, but to be honest I'm okay waiting a bit longer for a better lens.

Or it's all complete bullshit.  Many throwaway accounts have been debunked on reddit before, and we are on the cusp of April 1st.

    Yeah maybe, and hope so.

But if they delay more then a month you are now entering the VIVE availability territory (May), and I am sure the Rift is great and all, but delaying it too much will make a lot of people switch over, especially if the VIVE launch is silky smooth...

If that's an April fools gag, first, good one. Second, he'd better lay low and not ever tell anyone that he was the prankster. Can you imagine how many orders could be cancelled because of this "prank"? Not cool, bro.

Just out of curiosity, what time was your initial order confirmation email back in January? Were you one of the ones before 8amPST?

Mine is showing up soon and even if it wasn't I would wait. The Rift is clearly the better VR unit at this stage. The customer service here sucks but in the end I want the best VR. Next gen I'll look hard at what Vive has to offer. I feel they will end up being the long term winner anyways.

Another leaker "VR-Researcher" said "Certain partners, when they screw up, disallow companies who partnered with them from publicly stating their mistake.
This can cause the company to take the hit with their customers, even when the fault was not theirs."

The speculation on that thread is that it's a payment processing problem.

If I was Palmer Luckey, I'd be raging at the delay, at the fact my customers thought I was at fault, and that they thought I was unwilling to be honest with them.

Later on VR-Researcher said "You underestimate scope of contract.  And you assume shipping."

Or this could all be made up crap and shipping will continue on-schedule.
It does make for some good drama though.
