I'm guessing uninstalling Oculus still deletes all downloaded content? If so, is there a way to copy the downloaded software to a different location, uninstall & reinstall Oculus, then paste the content back to avoid having to redownload?

@cybereality I've uninstalled Oculus Home, reinstalled and updated to the newest version.  However, I now do not have any options under the Settings/General tab to enable installations from unknown sources nor do I see any way to choose the drive I want to install my games to???  Any assistance would be appreciated!

I updated from 1.31 to 1.32. Enable from unknown sources is still there but no option to choose the installation path. I used the workarround with the hardlinks, dont know if this causes that behavior?

They *are* affected, unless I'm mistaken. The support article is about backing up the game/app data I think?

Please remember that you may not get the update immediately. It can take a few days to get to everyone.

Also, uninstalling the Oculus app will remove all your games and downloaded content. Saved games should remain, but may depend on how the developer implemented this feature.

EDIT: You can download the new setup installer to install to different drives, even if you are still on 1.3.1. Sorry for the confusion.

Surely the installer should always be the most recent version, no?

Luckily, it was for me, since I just did it before you posted.

No, it does not. That's what I'm saying. A small portion of users will receive the update immediately. The rest will have to wait until it automatically updates (which will happen over the next few days). Uninstalling/reinstalling does not change the situation.

EDIT: So I was a little confused. The new 1.3.2 features are rolled out slowly, as I said. However, the "install to other drives" feature is available to anyone that downloads the new setup file here:

atleast chronos savegame is there, nothing else is more important. Everything went well. Just annoying to "finish install" all apps again

Fair enough and good to know, lucky for me I didn't waste my time

No different than platforms like steam.. that does a first time setup too after restoring from a backup etc...

    Now.. for something else ;)

Oculus needs a way to re-verify downloaded files, like steam / elite dangerous / other digital platforms have.. because I just messed up and my bandwidth is about to pay for it :(

I forgot stupidly decided to skip the redistributable folder.  So whilst I have the GB's of apps and their manifest files, I dont have the shared redistributables.  Since they are already installed, I didn't think I would need them.. (stupid me) and now I can't finish the install for anything, I just get "Couldn't Install, visit Oculus support for help'

Awesome, I've been waiting for this! Still confused as to why the manually downloaded installer wouldn't be the latest build for everyone--this a very peculiar way to distribute software.

Anyway, no worries here--I don't have my CV1 for a few more weeks, so I'll just give it a few days.

I'm just glad there's a way to copy the content folders so I don't have to re-download everything. I've been holding off on buying games from the Oculus Store until I could install them to my preferred drive.

SO you say we need to uninstall to get support for installing to another drive , and then in other posts you say that uninstalling and reinstalling does not trigger the latest update .. so what exactly is supposed to be done?

Must I wait for an automatic update first - and once we have it - then uninstall it. From this point where do we initiate the new install?  https://www.oculus.com/en-us/setup/ ? You just also mentioned this link does not always provide the latest version. How is the link deciding which version to supply to whoever clicks it?

WHY ON EARTH would the installer not be patched to the latest build? Give me one good reason , just one I'm begging you. You guys are turning something rather simple into the most arcane process imaginable.

It's great that you can change your drive but why can't I choose the directory? I don't want the Oculus folder sitting on the root of my secondary drive.

Also will you be implementing an override for the switch to "High Performance" for those of us who don't want the software changing power profiles?

Right on time ! I was waiting for this to download Oculus Setup. And the drive choice appeared ! Thanks ^^

Is there a command line option or something to skip the graphics card check? I wrote this guide a few weeks ago on how to get 1.3 semi-installed, but I need home in order to play Project Cars apparently, so it would be nice to get it installed the real way.

It's kind of messed up that it's there in the first place considering I can still install the older oculus runtimes in my current setup. I shouldn't have to shell out money for a new card just because a piece of software wants me to.

Edit: And just to add, via that guide mentioned, I can load up SteamVR just fine (sans motion controls obviously). Why does Oculus have to lock the whole thing down with a video card check? Ridiculous, and unacceptable...

Sorry, I was mistaken. The "install to other drives" feature is available to everyone that re-downloads the setup installer. There are also 1.3.2 features you may or may not get updated to at this point, but you should still be able to install to another drive with the new setup exe.

Anyone else unable to click the "Change Drive" button in the new setup?

So I followed the reinstall instructions but now all my games have the "Finish Install" button that lead to an error "Redistributable info missing. Please reinstall the application." Anyone else get this?
  • cyberealitycybereality Posts: 17,358 Oculus Staff
Did you make sure to backup your redistributable folder first? If not, you should be able to just uninstall / reinstall the Oculus app but you will have to re-download all your games.

I did, and copied the Redistributables folder to the new install location. I previously had the Software and Downloads folder connected to a different drive with symlinks. Do you think this could be the cause? I have already uninstalled + reinstalled Oculus. Though when I uninstalled, I used a program (Geek Uninstaller) which wipes registry values associated with the program so maybe that messed up something too. I really don't mind reinstalling my games if I need to, just figured I'd post on here before doing so.
