CV1 Sensor Problems

EpifEpif Posts: 1
I am having major problems with my CV1 sensor. I have an Asus Z170-A motherboard, and the Oculus Compatibility Checker said I was good to go. However, I have tried every USB 3.0 port on my motherboard. Windows seems to detect everything correctly, but once I start up the Oculus software the sensor begins to constantly disconnect and then be re-detected, at a rate of around once per second. This happens on all the USB 3.0 ports.

When using the USB 2.0 ports the sensor connects and setup allows me to continue, but it causes extreme warping making it unusable. I have uploaded video here:

There's the logs.

I hope someone can help with this. I put in a ticket yesterday and haven't heard back yet. I also posted on Reddit yesterday but no one was able to help me. Thanks in advance.

SOLVED: I found a workaround solution. I was having the same problem and also have an ASUS Motherboard. It doesn't like the dynamic power change.

    Here what I did: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/specify-custom-active-power-plan-windows

That didn't work for me. Maybe a bios reset will work

drpliers - You have to configure you Power settings in advanced session and disable the USB power management. Once you do that and save you get the GUID of it by issuing the CMD POWERCFG /LIST
Then open the gpedit.msc, go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Power Management
Edit the Specify a custom active power plan template
Add the GUID in there and select Enabled
    Click OK

After this Windows won't allows applications to change the power settings.
The problem with ASUS motherboard is that when an application changes the power settings the USB 3.0 disconnects and reconnect.

It also looks like that Oculus OVRServer_x64.exe has a bug on it. The application changes the power setting even if you have the computer already on the correct power setting.

If you look in your event logs you can see this happening exactly when it disconnects.

    Here what shows on mine:
    Process C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe (process ID:4708) reset policy scheme from {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c} to {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c}

As you can see OVRServer_x64.exe is resetting the power policy scheme from to the same scheme.

Thanks, I'll try this out. I did the USB power management change, but didn't lock it in with gpedit. I found the same entries in my event log for OVRServer_x64.exe  as you did, so hopefully this might help matters.
My mobo is actually an asrock z98m.

Still have a problem with the sensor it appears, but not getting any errors in event log relating to OVRServer_x64.exe .
Event logs are showing dropped frames from sensor. I'll log a ticket and see what they say.

The dropped frames events are expected according to Oculus support. They say the messages will be managed better in the next release. Are you still getting disconnection or its losing tracking?

I no longer have disconnection anymore but I do still have lost of tracking and view goes crazy. Still haven't figured that one out... I thought it was the distance to the sensor. I bought a mount with a clip and is not in a perfect place and distance and I still get the lost of tracking. Frustrating!

    Workaround:
I managed to get it to stabilise using a usb 2 port.

I'll try it in a usb 3 port on the pcie card I've ordered

Really? Two adapters and a month of waiting to sort the HDMI problems.. now I need to buy a PCIe card too? Yikes. Was there a specific type that worked for you gents?

Thanks Drpliers... This whole 'purchase a new rig, then buy adapters, now buy cards' thing is really steering away from their 'plug and play' line.

It's a hell of a lot easier than the DK2 was IMHO
