Techy111Techy111 Posts: 3,546 Valuable Player
I heard through the grapevine that IL2 will be getting VR support on the next patch? Anyone heard this news or have a link to the news ?

Just Vive support for now it seems. Good news though.

Cheers for the link. I take it vive gets the support because of the big dx9 fallout with oculus? I hope we don't have to wait long. This game has always been one of my favourites. And if they do vr support for Rise of Flight I'll be in heaven :)

    Isn't that just BoS?

Oh - and zero chance of it in RoF unless a 3rd party comes up with something. Was watching a discussion on this somewhere I don't remember and it seems there will be naff-all updates to RoF in the foreseeable, if ever.

BoS will do for now mate and I bet RoF won't be far behind ;)

Any way to get the washed out colour sorted when inside the cockpit? When I stick my head out of the cockpit the fields look great, but inside the cockpit the fields and things look washed out. Can you change the transparency of the cockpit windows to correct this by any chance?

Not too sure on that, mine won't even start after my driver update :(

    What driver update is that?

The latest. But I just found out if you set your monitor res to the same in game then all is fine. It tried to start at some ridiculous resolution.

    I just spotted this:

    http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21356

I've had CloD for a long time, but due to the rep and the fact it just crashed on start when I bought it, I didn't bother with it until recently. Now it doesn't crash - in fact it runs well in the GUI, but I haven't flown the missions as yet (just got into the cockpit of the Tiger Moth to see if it would run). I just discovered this evening about installing the TF updates via the beta opt-in on Steam, so done that - and now I know VR is coming with the North Africa update, I will take a serious look, get my PC Pilot mags out again and read through all the reviews and tutes.

I'll be using the Blenheim, for sure.

I was reading recent Steam posts and one of the TF guys was pointing people to that post - so I am guessing it is still accurate.

Apparently, the next update is 4.5 - but this will not have VR, and it won't be coming soon. Patch 5 will have VR and the North Africa campaign. Apparently, this is already being worked on, but is a long way off yet.

In terms of months etc, I have no idea, but I will be looking at this a lot more and if I find out anything new I'll post about it.

I've just spent a couple of hours reading up on BoS and I won't be getting that.

Edit: for those that have, I take it you have seeen this:

Brixmis, I have played IL2, the original series, for years.   When clod came out there was great hope it would replace il2 for our local combat group but it never happened.   It was so rubbish with optimisation that half the people couldnt run it without constant stuttering.

I didnt buy BOS because of that and when they said they would have VR I never pulled the plug.  Glad I didnt because they backed out of that and the sim got battered by players for all sorts of design decisions.

Long story short, I just bought BOS.  I don't feel like I missed out anything prior to now but I do think it was a god time to buy.   VR is very good and I hope my local group think about finally  moving to it.

Clod and BOS were made by two completely different devs teams, so why didn't you purchase BOS? Was it for some other reason? The dev team working on Clod abandoned it while it was still in a terrible state and TF took over and made it a great game. BOS is totally different team and I gave up on the game because it was supposed to get VR a long time ago. It was demo on the DK2 and built up people's hope that it would get VR from the off. That didn't happen and I stamped my feet and walked away like a big kid. That resulted in me getting banned from the forums. The memory of that came flooding back when I realised I'm still banned and wanted to ask a question just now on their forums LOL.

@lovethis   It's a little bit back so hard to remember but they were coming from the same publisher so ltos of people were rightly or wrongly mixing baggage from clod.   Like you, I was keeping an eye on it but I didn't order early, once bitten etc.   It was a 100% buy for me when it had VR but I didn't buy then and glad as heck I didnt when they pulled it out.

Not to say the game wasn't good but by then, like a lot of us on the oculus forums, I didnt do 2d on a screen anymore :)

I must say it's an amazing experience. I shot down my first plane and the detail was just amazing. The smoke on the damaged plane and then it fell apart in midair and a piece hit my propeller. I crash landed spectacularly.

I can't wait to do dive bombing in a Stutka drive bomber!

My group was my Dad and myself, hunched around a keyboard called a Spectrum 48. playing Tomahawk!! B)

Bloody hell - I was already in the army, then! Anyway, when we got really hi-tech we had a Kempston stick for control and what a massive difference that made!

    sorry OT :)

PS - oh, we had the original cassette (I still have it!) not a pirate version...

This one ( IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad) is simply amazing and gorgeous in VR! 1CGS did an incredible job with their first implementation of VR in this sim. On my rig I can run it at Ultra graphics settings with a Pixel Density of 1.8 and still get very smooth performance.

I would highly recommend it to any flight sim fan! I am having a blast with it.

It's a shame I can't get the A-20 as a seperate plane to use in BoS - that would interest me. Similarly, whilst tempted by the P-40, I would only get it if I can use it in A/G missions.

Is there a popular place where user made missions or campaigns are available? I see the only official add-on campaign is flying for the Luftwaffe and as a patriotic British combat pilot I don't fly for any fascist filth! :p

Yep the official forums has some great user made campaigns and missions for SP.

Also the stock campaign you can certainly fly for either side. I am currently flying for the Allies in my Yak-1 and having a blast in that campaign.

They are in the process of creating a new campaign system , based on a career mode style of play. It is going to be truly incredible. Due for release later this year with the Battle of Kuban release.

    Sounds good!

I hope the Kuban price comes down, though - really can't justify $80 when I already have so many flight sims and haven't flown any of them enough (well I have thousands of hours in FSX/P3D, but certainly not flown my various combat flight sims enough).

Funnily enuff, I had since found that source :) Wish I could log in using my main website profile, though.

EDIT: Ah, okay, I got in via the main site. I tried to enter my details directly on the forum log-in earlier and got fobbed off. Now I have entered from the main site and gone to the forum, all is ok :)

Someone drag me off my keyboard! I just bought the P-40 and La-5 as well..... :s

C'mon go for it guys, the devs need our support and now that they have brought us VR it is well worth it!

I have purchased everything they have to offer now to show my thanks.

This game is seriously hardcore. I'm learning about fuel mixtures, propeller pitch and manifold pressure. Check out dive bombing in this game.

Switching the HUD off is essential for good FPS in this game. HUD on = 45 FPS. HUD off = 89 FPS. What other setting do you use to make VR look better? I have the settings to Ultra with HDR on etc. Is there any other setting that make a massive improvement to FPS?

I'm also starting to wonder if the Normandy Map for DCS can look as good as BOS now. Also, ROF needs to add VR because that would be so fricken awesome in VR. If not it will die a death because I can't play that after seeing BOS now.

It's great to see my fav genre getting more and more VR support. Don't think I'll be bored again with all these flight sims to choose from :) now if we could get Apache Gunship game of old in VR then I think I'd be in Nirvana!!! Remember?

I just wish someone would make the Apache in DCS World. All the Russian stuff is over complicated. What are the best Flight Sims for multiplayer Dog fighting atm? DCS seem to struggle with lots of players on the servers the last time I looked. I don't think they have dedicated servers you can set up in DCS World do they?
