Gear APKs saying my AT&T Note 4 needs an Update

I pushed the software from the Gear VR SDK onto my Note 4.

It is telling me that I need an update before the Gear VR software can run. I am running stock Android 4.4.4 on an AT&T Note 4.

Is this correct? Do I need an update to even try the apks?

Yes, store bought Note4's need a firmware update to work with the SDK. Given that this released today, my guess is that it will be available soon.

Given AT&T's history, i doubt an update will be pushed any time soon. I'd be thrilled if they get it out before we even get the gear, but I'm not holding my breathe. They still haven't pushed the samsung update that improves the battery life.

Some guy with a rooted Note 3 and an older version of Android is having no problem loading up the apks.

That makes no sense.

It seems that the APKs may not be fully functional without an upcoming update (should be ready when it launches officially). Sorry for the confusion.

That's quite alright. I'm just glad someone clarified.

Will this update be coming from AT&T directly? (please say NO)

I'm not sure how the update will be distributed. More info to come closer to launch.

Seeing the same thing with Verizon.

My T-Mobile Note 4 is doing this as well. I suspect all Note 4's are doing this.

I really hope you guys aren't going through the carriers. With AT&T's history... it'll be April before the gear vr I'll have in December will even work. Not great....
