Black display due to too low computer specs

SamSamSam

Hi,

ma rift does not work. The screen stays black and the LED yellow.

I have to admit that my specs are very low: A GTX 580 and an I7 860 CPU.

But can this be really the reason that the CV1 does not work ?

To my technical understanding this makes no sense.

It’s like saying “Well, this computer is too slow so no wonder the monitor
shows no picture.”

The GTX 580 supports HDMI 1.4a, this is above the demand of HDMI 1.3 by the
rift. The same applies to the maximum resolution of the GTX 580 of 2560 x 1600
vs. the specs of the CV1 (2160 x 1200).

Whether the system if fast enough for sufficient frame rates is a
completely different question. But it is at least capable to show a
screen.

I am not going to buy a completely new computer system just to realize that
this was not the problem. This is not less a matter of money than a matter of
time and effort.

I am planning to buy a new graphics card but have not yet decided which one
to buy. And if the oculus still does not work with the new graphics card the the support will probably tell me “It’s the CPU”.

Unfortunately I have no idea at the moment where to find a computer meeting
the specs to test this out.

But  the “the display does not work because the computer is too slow” just
makes no sense to me at all.

What is your opinion / experience ?

Comprehension issue.... you can't grasp what you call fine is not fine for others. Below min specs, low settings, fps drops, but it's K. You realize that is your subjective opinion? Stop attacking me. Hell the only reason I keep replying here is you keep attacking me.
Grow up. Move on. Drop it.

Dude... take your own advice, the point here is not about his hardware causing him lag and he doesn't understand it, or complaining about it. It's that he doesn't understand why it's not displaying anything, which is shouldn't be doing if it was directly responsible for the low muscle the hardware gives. I'm not attacking you I'm defending myself, you're the one who started off acting as though I was too stupid to know what I was talking about or how to even monitor my fps in game... You started off calling me delusional for reading the fps that the debug tool was telling me and stating it here, and followed that by condescending that I just don't know any better.

Do you honestly think that these statements don't apply to you as well?

While D-Fly is busy insulting others by calling them "delusional," here are the list of issues that he suffers from:

1) Can't make his XBox controller work

Note that others have provided solutions while he was busy trolling.

2) He has no idea how to remove a simple Rift piece:

Note the hilarious instructions given to him.

3) HMD audio/video issues

4) Embarrassingly struggling with VR Porn:

5) Opened a support ticket for lens help:

He couldn't take a pic to show his problem, and actually used Paint to illustrate it lol - and please look at the extra large crayola style art job he did. If that's any indication of his PC skills and abilities:

I repeat, a guy who uses Paint is insulting forum members and moderators because they didn't build their own VR Ready machine, and ridiculing random forum posters if they don't readily understand the things he's made sure he understands (for the sole purpose of ridiculing the lack of understanding in others).

Hilarious.

I can move past and forget all of those faux pas, it's confusing as to why he would come into this thread ( and others) and start trolling and detracting from the original point while others are trying to solve issues for the OP's.

DooDoofly is a fairly charming guy as long as he isn't talking about PC specs. Something happens that makes a few screws come loose with that one topic lol

It seems no one fully read my earlier post, gpu and cpu were both stated lol.

I think the R9 270 you mentioned is both better and newer than an HD 7750 which is
what I said the minimum requirement is. I don't see any other GPU
mentioned.
For nVidia it's GTX 650 or better and newer. I don't know
if you actually read my minimum specs or not, and I don't want to be
disrespectful but you even say that the specs I said are the absolute
minimum are actually recommended ones. I don't agree with you.

An now I am reporting you and making a formal complaint. You've crossed the line. Not responding to this crap either. The stain red tint or w/e has NOTHING to do with prebuilt vs custom.  You are grasping at straws and relentlessly trolling me.

@manu I'm basing my assumtion on the fact that the gtx 580 outperforms the hd 7750 in benchmarks. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7750-vs-GeForce-GTX-580#performance
And is still fairly comparable to the r9 270 I'm using.
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-270-vs-GeForce-GTX-580#performance
That being said if there's some sort of hidden restriction being that nothing less than the gtx 650 will even display, regardless of actual gpu muscle. Then yes I would be incorrect, and he has no choice but to upgrade gpu's. I was countering that if it's straight muscle, then the 580 should still at the very least display an image (even if it has some judder; as asynchronous timewarp can be a miracle worker for underpowered rigs). And it might be a quite common issue of incompatible usb drivers (or not enough power in them) or possibly him using a incompatible dvi >hdmi adapter or some variant therein. Regardless, he should definitely save up for new hardware upgrades, even if it is possible to run the rift on his rig.

Also I didn't say it was the recommended spec as those are obviously not a 970/290, I was saying it was the minimum required to run it and should still be possible to actually run it (albeit with loss of performance) with something a touch weaker.
