CV1: No sound in rift headphones

KNP54

I have no sound output in the rift headphone either in home, or in VR games when I set the output device to Rift Headphones or Audio Mirroring.
Before I was using my own headphones with the rift and that was working fine but I decided I was going to try the rift headphone for the sake of convenience.
I know it's a software issues since I CAN make them them work sometimes by restarting the OVR service and home several times. And also if I set my windows default audio output to the rift headphones and play music for example, the rift headphones works. So, it's definitely not a hardware issue.

Here are the logs.... This one looks suspicious:

I see this error, which is pretty serious (actually, not sure how anything works without that).
"Windows 10 system doesn't appear to have RiftDisplay.inf installed. Cannot use DXGI 2 path successfully."
To fix you need to go to this folder:
C:/Program Files/Oculus Runtime VR Drivers/Drivers/Monitor
And right click RiftDisplay.inf and choose Install.

In terms of the audio problem, it may be a conflicting program. There are known conflicts with Asus Sonic/AI Suite, VoiceMeeter, M-Audio, and other sound background applications. If you have something like that on the PC it may be a good idea to uninstall and see if that helps.

I installed RiftDisplay.inf and it's not showing the error anymore.
As for audio, the only thing that is remotely audio related installed is OpenAL. It might have come with a game I installed? I don't remember installing OpenAL. Should I uninstall it?
I had Asus AI Suite installed before but I uninstalled it a long time ago.

I also have more details on the audio symptoms:
Audio in the rift only works the first time OVR service is launched. If I close home, and relaunch home, audio stops working in the rift. Audio mirrors correctly to speakers all the time though.

Maybe try updating audio drivers for your sound card / motherboard.

Ok, so I backed up all my game and I tried Beta/Restart Oculus... did not fix audio issues
I then completely reinstalled oculus software.. and still the same audio issue...

But now new problem: I restored my games and every game I try to reinstall says "Sorry, we couldn't install <game name>. Visit Oculus Support to get help."

Edit : nevermind the last part, I forgot to copy the manifest folder...

Fixed it!!!

Right-click speak icon in system tray,
Select Playback Devices,
Select Headphones (Rift Audio),
Properties,
Advanced,
Default Format = 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality).

If this is set to 2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality) I have the audio bug!!

I had a similar 'no sound from headphones' but the windows audio was fine. Even the  'Audio Output' on the headset page of the Oculus app showed both 'Rift Headphones' and 'Windows default' nut nothing switched the headphones audio on.

My issue was the Rift audio was listed as a  'USB Audio device' in device manager and the Oculus driver update wouldnt fix it.

Solution : Start Oculus but dont put on the headset. Select the 'USB Audio device' in the device manager list and force a driver update leaving windows to search for the best driver.
Worked 1st time.  Device manager now correctly shows the Rift Audio and it switches without fail.  Might help someone

If I may revive this thread... I also have no sound in the Rift anymore. Used to work fine - no clue if / what has changed in the system. Windows 10 - build 17763.379, Thinkpad p51 + gtx 1080 (Sonnet - egpu).

I haven't tried doing a fresh win10 install because several people on the forum reported that didn't make any change (and it takes me half a day setting up all settings & software again so I want to be sure that will fix it). What I did try is:

- disable all other playback devices + make Rift the only playback device
- put rift audio into CD quality
- disabled all audio enhancements
- de- & re installed Oculus Software
- de-installed Realtek audio driver -> automatically replaced by MS driver + tested with re-installed new Realtek driver
- ran  C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers\oculus-driver.exe
- USB cable changed - tried in all ports
- uninstall Nvidia HD sound driver
- disable power save feacture on usb ports
- update / re-installed usb 3 drivers
- disable sleep on all usb ports
- connect headset with usb2 cable to computer
- restarted audio service (net stop audiosrv + net start audiosrv)
- disabled GameMode & GameBar
- disabled microfone
- steam vr audio setting to play in Rift
- Oculus setup - repair

Any suggestions??

Just ran OculusLogGatherer.
When searching for audio I read in the Service... .txt: 'Could not
find Rift device for output falling back to Windows default' which is
strange. The default output device IS the Rift but apparently the Rift
can't be found?

@cybereality Any suggestions (preferably without doing a full re-install of Win10 ? I could pm a download link for the zipped logs.
