Configuration Utility only detects DK1 in extended mode. How could I fix this?

I have been searching for a while and can not find any answers, so I'd really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

Problem summary: I can only get the oculus to work in cloned monitors, which I want to avoid due to lag. When I extend the monitor the configuration will detect the rift if it is in extended mode, but not in direct to rift mode. However, when it is in extended mode the rift displays images in a small window rather than taking up entire FOV.

Basic specs:

DK1

Laptop with 1920X1080 resolution

windows 8.1

Edit* The problem seems to be that the DK1 runs on my laptops resolution, (creating the small window effect). And i can't seem to figure out how to make it run at 1280 x800. Which I set it to in the control panel. Any ideas?

I believe DK1 is only supposed to work in Extended Mode. Direct Mode is for DK2.

I'm not sure about the "small window" problem, but it may be that you are in windowed mode when you should be in full-screen. For DK1 the native resolution is 1280x800 but 1920x1200 can also be used (downscaled).
