Mono sources to ambisonic workflow

Hi there. In one of the videos about audio for VR on the oculus youtube channel it was mentioned how well suited Ambisonics were for ambient sounds and music. Unfortunately it didn't become quite clear how one could create ambisonic files with the exception of using an ambisonic microphone.

I would like to use the ambisonic approach in an Unreal Engine 4.14 game with either FMOD or Wwise as the implemented audio middleware (both support first order ambisonics) and the Oculus Audio SDK. I am not quite clear on what the exact steps are here though. First hurdle is creating the ambisonics file from multiple mono sources, which is what this question is about:

After much searching (it's still quite an obscure subject) I discovered that reaper has the so called Ambisonics Toolkit (http://www.ambisonictoolkit.net/) which enables the user to encode mono/stereo files to several ambisonic formats.

What isn't clear to me however is how one could build an ambisonics file from multiple mono files instead of just one. This video demonstrates how to do it for one file (https://vimeo.com/182434517), but not how to do it for multiple files.

Am I misunderstanding something or overlooking some aspect of ambisonic sound creation?

Are there other (better) ways to build an ambisonic file from multiple mono files?

Thanks in advance for your help!
