I had lot of crashes with vr player and I found how to solve the problems :

- uninstall vlc and vr player
- install VLC 32 bit in C:\Program Files (x86)\
- install VRPlayer also in C:\Program Files (x86)\
- Install the DK2 tracker (before unzip, right click on zip / properties / unblock)
- Set the configuration for dk2 use

Test, it should be okay.

Hi,

I made a small change to the DK2 tracker plugin to support positional tracking.
It is still unstable. I will update the official release when ready.

Thanks again for the feedback!

EDIT: It's disabled by default. To activate, Tools->Settings->Trackers->Oculus Rift DK2->Positional Tracking

When using this latest version you've uploaded, VR player doesn't detect the dk2 tracker at all in the trackers list.

The tracking works fine on my desktop LCD but no picture is coming through to the DK2.

Tried various things, still not working. And yeah, it's turned on :p

Apparently missed the part where you have to set it to extended mode... Works fine now!

Finally got it to work.
Updated video driver. and a bunch of other things. not sure what finally did it.

Fixed the msvcr120.dll. issue by installing the vcredist_x86.exe (also vcredist_x64.exe, but I still got the dll error after installing that one).

Will VR Player play all codecs/files as long as VLC supports them or is there a limitation within VRp?

Certain files work perfectly where others are just blank, like .mkv.

I'm guessing this is just a matter of not having the right codecs installed as I normally use media player classic to play media files, which doesn't need any installed codecs to run most files.

I just got my DK2 and started using this yesterday. Everything worked after following instructions, but I have a request. Is there any way to access the Menu system while playing a movie in the oculus rift so I don't have to press esc and have to close one eye to try to read the menu etc. Would be very useful when the display is on the rift to be able to access the menus to play a different file etc. I do however like the way we can change the projector settings on the main monitor display while seeing the changes in real time with the rift. So far using settings of No Distortion and Dome seem to give me the best 3D effect. My question in Dome settings is when viewing 16:9 video, how can I calculate the proper horizontal and vertical ratios to use so the displayed aspect ratio is 16:9 instead of trying to rely on my eyesight judgement?

the unblock content option is not available by default in windows 8. Here is an article on how to fix it.

Thanks reexe and Skretch. That worked great.

These settings appear to work well:

Positional tracking doesn't seem to work the way I would expect it to. If I lean in, I expect the image to get larger, as if I was moving closer to my TV or a theater screen. What I actually see though is the image simply distorts, with no sense of me being closer to the screen.

Place it in the trackers folder, don't forget to unblock the zip file first. Mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\VR Player\Trackers. Then Tools -> settings -> trackers and select the tracker. I then had to close vr player and restart it to get tracking.

I also got this initially. I think I resolved it by installing the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013, both x86 and x64. I also found x64 vlc would crash the player, so I had to use x86.

Anybody else's cursor getting distorted after launching vr player? It has started in the last hour, and is triggered only by launching vr player. It persists even after I close vr player. When hovering over this chat box or notepad it shows as black lines, over anything else its displays as 5 small triangles stacked atop each other. It is resolved by rebooting.
